 2017 Preview 


       Decatur Heritage Christian completed the 2016 season with a 10-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region seven, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Decatur Heritage Christian lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Pickens County team by a score of 48-12.

       Over the past two seasons the Eagles have gone 22-5 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Decatur Heritage Christian has gone a combined 41-35. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

       The Eagles are led by head coach Steve Meek who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 40-28 over the past six seasons at Decatur Heritage Christian. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Meek.

       Coach Meek's overall record as a head football coach in eleven season stands at 57-61 (48.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Meek's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won one region championship.

       The Decatur Heritage Christian Eagles will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2017 season.

       The Eagles should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Eagles open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Falkville on Friday, August 25 at Burl Vest Stadium. Last year the Falkville Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 2A region seven. The Blue Devils ended last season on a positive note with a win over Vinemont by a score of 53-34 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Decatur Heritage Christian and Falkville have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 2-6-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2016 with Falkville winning by a score of 20-19.
